It’s the ultimate innovation for millions of couples who prefer to stay in together this Valentine’s Day – or maybe for those alone – for a date with their favourite TV shows. The Valendines TV Dinner is the first all-in-one, three course, ready meal that comes complete with its own candle.
According to new research from Freeview, a quarter (24%) of British couples plan to spend this Valentine’s Day at home in front of the TV. The research revealed that Brits are only ever five dates away from a night in with a new partner with 11% of people saying they had waited until the fifth date to snuggle up in front of the TV. Surprisingly, one in ten adults (9%) also admitted that they spent the first date with their current partner at home watching TV.
Based on this insight, Freeview created the Valendines TV Dinner, the ready meal that allows TV lovers to cook up three courses in just three minutes without having to spend all night in the kitchen.
Developed in partnership with designer and cook Chris Godfrey, the Freeview Valendines TV Dinner reinvents the TV dining concept with a heart-shaped, candlelit tray and the evening’s TV highlights schedule listed on the packaging.
The three course Valendines TV Dinner will offer a feast without any of the fuss:
Starter – Pea and Ham soup
Main – Fish Pie
Main side – Carrots and green beans
Dessert – Sticky Toffee Pudding and custard
Research also showed that TV is an intrinsic part of finding a partner and having a long-lasting relationship:
• Six out of ten (59%) Brits revealed that snuggling up on the sofa to watch TV with a partner is one of the key things they most look for in a relationship – more than shared interests in travel (41%), politics (10%) and religion (10%)
• A third of Brits (32%) admit to bluffing about the TV programmes they like on a first date in order to appear compatible with a new partner
• While half of us (51%) wouldn’t think a partner with totally different TV taste had long-term relationship potential, almost the same number (43%) say they’ve discovered new favourite shows thanks to a new partner
Guy North, marketing communications director at Freeview commented: “Going out for Valentine’s Day is expensive so it’s no wonder many couples would rather stay in to watch TV. There’s plenty to keep everyone entertained from Benidorm to EastEnders and the Winter Olympics. That’s why the Valendines TV Dinner could be the perfect solution for those who want a touch of romance without missing the programmes they love.”
