American factual programming channel launches on channel 94
PBS America, the British TV channel from America’s Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) today launches on Freeview channel 94. The announcements marks Freeview’s 12th and final channel launch of 2017.
Since launching in the UK, PBS America has carved out a niche in quality, factual programming, including showcasing the American public service broadcaster’s multi-award-winning NOVA, FRONTLINE and American Experience strands.
Highlights this Christmas and New Year include the brand-new FRONTLINE investigation, PUTIN’S REVENGE (9pm, Friday 22 December), the four-part American Experience WALT DISNEY (Christmas Eve), as well as PBS’s highest rating TV series ever, THE CIVIL WAR (Saturday 30 December) and JAZZ (New Year’s Day) both by legendary filmmaker, Ken Burns.
Freeview Managing director Guy North said: “PBS America is an excellent addition to the Freeview channel line-up, and will offer our viewers an even wider choice of quality factual programming. This announcement concludes a busy year of launches for Freeview, marking the twelfth and final channel launch of 2017”.
Richard Kingsbury, PBS America’s General Manager, says “Launching on Freeview channel 94 will bring PBS America to millions of new homes for the first time. Viewers who were recently engrossed by Ken Burns’ THE VIETNAM WAR on BBC Four, which was commissioned by PBS, will find a lot more to enjoy on the channel.”
