Freeview Play is set to roll out on Loewe televisions later this year, the two companies have announced today. The subscription free, live TV, catch-up and on-demand platform provides access to BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, Demand 5 and UKTV Play.

Viewers with compatible Loewe televisions* will soon be able to scroll back through the TV guide to access shows from the past seven days. Through the Search function, they can find their favourite shows or discover new ones using Freeview Play’s Recommendations feature. The hybrid platform provides viewers with 70 digital and 15 HD channels, all for no monthly cost.

Guy North, Freeview Managing Director said, “Loewe has a long heritage of producing great looking televisions and with the addition of Freeview Play these sets now have a rich content offering to complement their beautiful design. With this launch, consumers now have an even greater variety of ways to get quality, subscription free TV, from a £60 set top box to a timeless piece of Loewe design-led engineering.”

“Freeview Play is a fantastic addition to Loewe TVs”, says Charlie Cann, Marketing Manager, Loewe UK Ltd.  “Loewe customers can now enjoy the full suite of UK catch-up TV services, together with innovative features such as the Backwards TV guide and Recommendations, which consolidate content across all the catch-up services for an amazingly user-friendly experience.  With Freeview Play now integrated into Loewe’s beautifully designed, intuitive user-interface, Loewe can offer consumers the best of British catch-up TV combined with the finest German made televisions.”

Technical development of Freeview Play, including product specification, is being led by Digital UK.

About Loewe

Founded in 1923 by the brothers Siegmund and David Ludwig Loewe, Loewe presented the world’s first electronic film transmission at the 8th Berlin Radio Exhibition in 1931. The brilliant inventor and physicist Manfred von Ardenne, Loewe’s Chief Engineer, came up with the technology. This marked Loewe’s invention of the electronic television – TV as we know it today. Loewe also developed the first portable television. And that’s not all. Loewe Art 1 – now a design icon – was exhibited in the New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in the 1980s. Loewe devices are still made in Germany – with great passion, enthusiasm and extensive expertise. The development, production and service departments are based in Kronach (Upper Franconia). Loewe products have been perfected down to the last detail and designed to last and save energy. Modular technology, premium materials, precise workmanship, regular software updates and timeless design guarantee a sustainable product – high-tech with soul.
